The research for which Dr Bose is most noted was connected with plants and metals. He believed that all the three kingdoms — animals, plants and minerals are one. In 1879, a French scientist had proved that plants, like animals have digestive ferments and have the power of movement. But, Dr Bose went further and proved that plants have hearts and feel as much as human beings do. They have a sixth sense and rapidly become aware of the presence of a stranger. Their sight is keen and they can perceive those rays of light and wireless waves which are outside our own perception. They feel fatigue as we do, and they react to poison like ourselves. One day he put a plant in a bottle of poison and recorded its pulse. He found that the pulse fluttered like that of a human being gasping for breath. He administered an antidote before the fluttering ceased and then the plant came back to life. He gave it the same antidote after the fluttering had ceased, but there was no response, as the plant was dead.
